This was the "good news" story of the day on a Canadian news website:

Jobsies called and left a message on my voice mail late this afternoon asking me to post a quick update for her.
She had her surgery done this morning but not the one she expected. She ended up getting the sleeve done rather than the bypass, which is what she wanted in the first place.
Everything went well and she'll give further updates later this week.

When last we left Ann . . .
I was hoping to see kitty Gillian who is being fostered in a home. http://www.animalert.ca/c12.htm But when I talked to the person from Animalert who is in charge of setting up the home visits she said that the person who is fostering Gillian was wavering on whether or not he wanted to keep her himself. I asked her to call him and say that I was interested. I figured that either I'd get to see her or at the very least it would push him into making a decision and she'd have a home.
Of course he did what I suspected he would and has now permanantly adopted her. So no kitty for me but at least Gillian has a home.
Marnie, the girl who coordinates the visits with the foster cats, then asked me if I had ever thought about getting a bonded pair of cats. I've got lots of room and they would be company for each other.
I had actually considered this before but Sid seemed pretty happy being an only cat. Now however, I'm thinking I might just end up with two new pets, not one.
I went to see a pair of sister cats this week, who are have been fostered for over a year at a pet food store and believe me, have put the time to good use. They are only 18 months old and these are two VERY large cats. Considering that Sid was one very small cat, I felt a bit overwhelmed. (Apparently when they tried to put the cats on a 'lite' cat food, they would just rip open bags of whatever they felt like eating. Plus the one cat won't drink standing water from a bowl but needs a special kitty fountain. I don't think I'm quite up to taking in two very large, high maintenace cats.)
Okay, so this afternoon I'm giving it another try. At 2 pm I've got an appointment to meet another pair, this time living with a couple that run a pottery out in the country not too far from London. The boy cat is 12 months old and is 'a big cat, but not a fat cat', named Arnie since his litter was found on a golf course and all the kittens were named after golfers. The girl cat, Elsbeth is 7 months old and very small.
Their pictures are at: http://www.animalert.ca/c27.htm and http://www.animalert.ca/c35.htm but are somewhat out of date.
If this doesn't work out, I might just go back to the humane society since their cats live in small cages and probably need a new home more than the fostered kitties. But I would like to have indoor cats and it's hard to tell with the humane society ones what they're really like
Wish me luck!

It's not going to be easy I know. This week my stupid thing was to forget to set my alarm last night when I went to bed. So I didn't wake up this morning until 7:05 and did I mention my first class starts at 8:00 (and of course I'm supposed to be in the classroom 10 to 15 minutes before that) It was an interesting start to my day to say the least.
As for last week, I'm still shaking my head over this one. Somehow while getting dressed for school on Monday morning I totally forgot to put on my bra. Not only did I forget, but I didn't even notice until I got to school! What exactly this says about me, I'm not sure.
Anyway, it's Friday tomorrow and I only have to teach half a day since I've got a doctor's appointment later in the day. What I won't do to get a little time off!
Hope everyone has a good end to their week.

uisge_beatha, here's the recipe for the 4 point cheese cake I was telling you about over the phone:
1 cup (250 ml) reduced-fat sour cream (5 points) 16 ounces (454 g) light cream cheese (28 points) 1 tablespoon (30 ml) freshly grated lemon zest (0 points) 1 tablespoon (30 ml) fresh lemon juice (0 points) 1 teaspoon (10 ml) vanilla extract (0 points) 2 eggs (4 points) 3/4 cup sugar (190 ml) sugar (11 points)
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine ingredients in a blender or food processor just until smooth. Pour into a 8 inch springform pan that has been coated with cooking spray. Bake for 1 hour or until firm around edges but still slightly loose in the centre. Turn off oven. Let cool completely in oven, then cover and chill before serving.
Total points 48 Makes 12 servings so only 4 points each!
I'm thinking the best way to bake it would be using a muffin pan instead of a springform pan. You could get those paper cupcake liner thingies and easily make 12 individual servings so that portion control would be simple. The recipe said to used reduced-fat sour cream - I suppose you could lower the points further by using non-fat but I'm not sure the cake would turn out as well.

Not that I'm excited about going on vacation or anything, but I found a fun little countdown ticker thingy on another site and wanted to see if I could get it to work here:

I'm not sure about this live journal thing - right now I'm being blackmailed into making my first post. No post = no dinner. And I'm hungry.
This must not be my day for food service - today when I went out for lunch, my friend and I had what I sincerely hope is the world's slowest waiter (and if by chance there is a slower one out there, be afraid, be very afraid. And very hungry) The food at the restaurant was very good (the peanut soup especially was first rate) but on account of the service, we only left $1.00 for a tip. Was that wrong? I know people in the service industry depend on tips as well as their hourly pay for a living, but if one does get truly horrid service (we waited over 15 minutes after having finished our meals for the waiter to come by - and we had to flag him down - and then decided dessert wasn't worth another hour of our lives and just asked for the bill), anyway were we justified in leaving so small a tip? Any thoughts?
The Ann
